Extra Chunky Spaghetti

This super chunky recipe will become a family favorite. It is easy to make for hectic days or days where you want comfort food.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 onion diced
  • 1 carrot peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 6 ounces ground lean turkey or extra lean ground beef
  • 4 cups no-salt-added tomato sauce
  • 1 pound spaghetti cooked according to package directions
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning

Method
 

  1. Cook the spaghetti according to package directions.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large nonstick pan. Saute the onion, carrots, and mushrooms until tender, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the lean turkey and tomato sauce and bring to a boil. Lower the heat to a simmer and cook until the meat is done about 8 minutes.
  4. Add the Italian seasoning and season the sauce to taste with salt and pepper if desired.
  5. Serve the chunky sauce over heated cooked spaghetti.

Notes

Chef's Tips: This recipe goes great with a strawberry almond salad.You can use drained, chopped canned kidney beans in place of the meat.
